2-13-95 Dear Georgia, Good to hear from you, hope you can get
something out of my memories, if you have questions just ask. I'll
answer best I know. My husband Herbert passed away May 14, 1983. Had
been ill with Emphysema for 10 years. I hept him home and cared for
him. We were married 37 years. No children, so I'm alone but for my
nieces who live in MO. One now lives in Cedar Rapids, IA. Sorry you
had damage to your roof-hope you have some good Ins. My rain gutters
on one side will have to be replaced before next rainy season. I came
to Cal. 1944. Been here 50 years. Wish I could sell out-would go back
to MO. Do hope you and Lori are well and happy. Do drop me a line, or
ask any question you wish. As you can see have Arthritis in my hands,
hard to write so you can read it. Love you, Ola In 1906 I was born.
We lived 6 miles south of Stover, Mo. My father William Brown owned 80
Ac. farm. Uncle Ol owned farm near by. Edward Parrack owned farm in
area, he is brother to our Grandmother Brown, my Grandmother, your
Great Grandmother, she was "American Indian". She died young so I
don't remember her. I can just remember having them talk about Ross &
Lon going to Iowa to work. Bessie went later. What ever time kids can
remember from I'm not sure, but perhaps you can guess at it. I was
still quite young when Uncle Ol sold this farm and moved to Locust
area where he died. My Dad was so grieved that he (Uncle Ol) moved,
they were very close, did so many things together. Uncle Ol was the
kindest person, my favorite. He always came with cookie or apple. Made
me so happy. Don't know any date but know must have been in Aug. or
Sept. still warm weather, we were eating dinner at noon-someone looked
saw Lola at gate riding Kate, their horse. Dad said something is
wrong. Lola was crying. That is day he died. I took off from school to
attend the funeral. Sad day for me. My Great Uncle Samuel Brown, your
Great Great Uncle owned land in area-he donated land for Chaney Chapel
Church and Cemetery where Uncle Ol is buried. Uncle Ol and my Dad did
the carpenter work on Church-everything was donated. Was a lovely
little Church. Most everyone lived there is ralated to the Browns.
Wanda, my niece & husband, mow it couple times a year. I hear it looks
nice. Deeds to Church land and Cemetery are on record in Versailles,
MO. One of my nieces have them. I only saw Ross & Lon when they came
home in winter, but Net, Owen, Lola came to our house a lot. My
brother Clarence had camera (a good one) they took so many pictures.
Odd ones, funny ones and real nice ones. Boys used to lift things
heavier the better, just to see who could lift most. They laughed and
seemed to have so much fun. Being a kid and girl I could only stand
back and look. As I remember, they were such good people, so honest,
hard working, loved and respected one another. I spent my childhood
days going to Sunday School at Chaney Chapel-they had it every Sunday
for many years. By Ola (Brown) Roby (end)
